NY state has passed legislation that make their harassment laws the most robust in the nation.
The new legislation changes include:
Eliminating the “severe and pervasive” standard for proving harassment.
Restricting the employer’s ability to avoid liability for the behavior of their employees.
Providing for attorneys fees and punitive damages in discrimination cases.
Expanding the time frame to file complaints about workplace harassment with a state agency.
Requiring anti-harassment training to be provided in multiple languages.
